THE starting point is alongside the river at Huertas Nuevas, 4 km along the road towards Ronda. After crossing the river bridge along the road, turn sharp left following a track back towards the railway line. Park shortly before reaching the railway.

WHILE this is undoubtedly one of the most scenic and varied walking regions of Spain, the walker will encounter a few challenges.
Most notable is the fact that paths are rarely marked on maps (see below for map recommendations) and, with the exception of the few numbered paths (ie. the PRs), not signposted or waymarked on the ground. Even those where some attempt has been made to mark the path, the positioning of the waymarks often leaves much to be desired and it is not difficult to lose the way.

THERE are a few variations on the standard walk down the Guadiaro Valley from the railway station at Jimera de Libar to the station at Cortes de la Frontera. The route described here is there and back – actually describing a figure of eight, so there are various permutations for doing the walk in just one direction and using the train to return.

STARTING from the Hotel Molino Cuatro Paradas in Benaojan, follow the footpath south down the river for 1,2 km until reaching signboard and bridge over river. Cross bridge, head straight then over another bridge and bear right past Hotel Molino del Santo.

A CIRCUIT to one of the remotest peaks of the Libar range, Los Pinos (1397m).
13 kms, 1000m ascent, Grade 3
Our route starts in the centre of Cortes de la Frontera, immediately behind the church. Look for a road heading uphill, called Calle Canton (obviously the Chinese sector of Cortes!)

A CIRCULAR route of approximately 20 km. taking you to and from the centre of Ronda. You can, of course, just walk in one direction and take the train or taxi to return.
Leave the Hotel Molino Cuatro Paradas heading north up the river footpath. After 1 km, reach Hotel Cueva del Gato where you bear left and take a path at the side of the icecream kiosk (do not cross the river bridge).
