EASYJET and Monarch, the two British low cost airlines, are now the two companies which bring most travellers into Málaga airport. The latest data from the Spanish Airports Authority, AENA, shows Easyjet carried more than 2.1 million passengers to or from Málaga last year, up 16.7%. Second place was Monarch with 804,000 passengers but only after losing 15.8% compared to 2007 when curiously it was fourth. The two companies between them represent a quarter of all the travellers through Málaga Airport in 2008. Iberia which led the list until 2005, was third last year, 17% down at 722,901. Next in line came Air Berlin, Spanair, Air Europa, Ryanair, Thomson Airways, Transavia and Clickair. The new route Delta Airlines route from the Costa del Sol to New York has carried 33,500 passengers since June.
