Seville geocache

FEBRUARY 1, 2011 turned out to be a cold but clear and sunny winter's day and perfect for a trip to Seville. So after a typical Andalucian breakfast of toast with olive oil and garlic, washed down with coffee, off we set in the direction of Seville.

The drive from the Guadiaro Valley takes you through Montejaque before joining the Seville road.

You drive past beautiful mountainous countryside all the way to Puerto Serrano (gateway to the mountains), where everything opens out onto a gently rolling plain.

After a short while we arrived close to El Coronil and after 3km a turning for Castillo de las Aguzaderas. It's a 15th century Arabic castle built to defend the water source of the pastures.

A Geocache has been hidden here in the grounds of the castle and with the co-ordinates downloaded into our GPS off we went to find the hidden box of treasure.

The pleasure in Geocaching is that by looking for the cache you end up in interesting spots that you wouldn’t normally get to see.

This castle is in excellent condition and by climbing the narrow staircases you get to the top lookout with superb views.

Our well travelled bottle of beer: Johnny fra Fanø was there to view the sights and enjoy the views.

After signing the log book in the cache we went on towards Seville and at the town of Utrera, a town important to the origins of flamenco and famous for its fighting bulls. Hence the next Geocache was hidden near the bull silhouette on one of the roundabouts.

Johnny fra Fanø again enjoyed this visit and got to see yet more of this fabulous countryside.
