SOMETIME last year while I was mulling over what I was going to do in the way of events and fun days to help promote Bar Allioli I downloaded a CD of the great accordion player Flaco Jimenez. This CD was Flaco playing with other artists, everyone does them, even Bing Crosby did one after he died! Anyhow I digress, so I was driving through this wonderful valley listening and then this song comes on, sung in a strange Dutch accent, English and Mexican. A trilingual song! If that wasn't surprising enough, it was also very good. Well, as you do, I went onto the internet and find out all I could about Rowwen Heze. A Dutch group from America, a small town in the Limburg region of Holland and what a band? Tex-Mex with a hint of Celtic and lots of North European Folk. So, I decided that we must have them for the music festival, only trouble was I couldn't afford them, after 25 years together they could command a good fee and there just wasn't enough in the budget to book them. Around this time we were also planning our holiday for the end of summer and we had always wanted to try a week cycling in Holland. So instead of getting the band here we went to see them.
We arrived at our Eibergen in Holland around lunchtime and rented bikes for the week. Off to the supermarket then to the chalet for Rookwurst met Stampot, a Dutch Bangers & Mash. A relaxing first day exploring and a few beers. Next day we set off on the remarkable network of bike tracks and paths getting to know the area. We came back to the chalet to find a note pinned to the door. "We have heard that you have travelled 2500 km for the concert, can we take your photo and interview you?" So next morning Ralph from the theatre comes around, take photographs and chats. Next morning, while I am checking my email in the public library, Michel from the local paper calls to interview us. News travels fast and far these days and Dutch people living in Spain are mailing me, we are in Die Telegraaf, Holland’s biggest paper and all over the internet. Then the band’s management calls and invites us to meet the band. Before the gig we meet them, genuine people and are they thanking us for coming all this way from Spain.
The Rowwen Heze concert was superb, the reception we received was beyond expectations and the icing that topped a superb holiday. We spent our last two days being recognised everywhere we went. We even ended up on the Rowwen Heze website. Fame at last!

I booked tickets on the internet, found a fabulous chalet by a lake to rent and booked with Ryanair.
We were given CD's and lots of other goodies and photos were taken which went around as well.
